Kanye West was Donald Trump’s most visible African-American supporter until he wasn’t. The rapper threw Fox News and right-wing pundits into chaos with his stunning and sharp denunciation of the president.

“My eyes are now wide open and now realize I’ve been used to spread messages I don’t believe in. I am distancing myself from politics and completely focusing on being creative !!!” he wrote on Twitter earlier this week.

Fox News talking heads were sent scrambling after the stunning denouncement and openly feuded on Twitter.

“Are you gonna turn on Kanye now?” wrote Tomi Lahren one of the entertainment network’s dog whistle racists.

“The ship was doomed to sink from the start but hunger for fame & money was placed over the movement. Funny how he was a ‘free thinker’ before and now he’s a ‘traitor.’ Sounds a lot like a tactic of the Left. You made your bed, now lie in it,” she wrote on Twitter in a pointed jibe at Candice Owens.

Owens shot back: “I think I can speak on behalf of people on both sides of the political aisle and say we are sorry about your failed career. The desperation to be relevant again by constantly subbing me and/or attacking @kathygriffin weekly—doesn’t bode well for any movement.”

Ouch!

“If you’re trying to bait me into some Twitter war, it’s not going to work. It’s not about us. You can threaten me or lob low blows about my career but I’m not playing,” Lahren clapped back.

When West, 41, first embraced Trump, he was immediately put on a pedestal by conservative pundits, who were desperate for some high-profile African-American to embrace the president, whose support in the black community is in single digits.

But in the process, the rapper irked his fan base and was called out be other celebrities. Even wife Kim Kardashian was having no part of it.

Trump went so far as to invite West to the White House, but their carefully organized photo-op turned into a disaster after West went off on a bizarre rant.

The turning point apparently came after West announced he was starting a “Blexit” movement to convince African-Americans to join the Republican Party.

Owens coined the term and has been pushing the effort, and yesterday, accepted responsibility for floating a rumor that West had designed a line of “Blexit” merchandise. The move, in part, seemed designed to take some of the heat off Trump, according to The Wasington Post.

“Kanye was completely right to feel used in that regard and as I have done personally, I would like to publicly apologize to him for any undue stress or pain the effort to correct that rumor has caused him, his business relationships, or his family,” Owens wrote. “He simply never designed them.”

West shed further light on the controversy. “I introduced Candace to the person who made the logo, and they didn’t want their name on it so she used mine,” he Tweeted Tuesday. “I never wanted any association with Blexit. I have nothing to do with it.”

West, of course, has been all over the map on political issues. He called slavery a choice and called for the 13th Amendment, which ended slavery, to be abolished before backtracking on those claims.

Needless to say, Fox News talking heads have been left with egg on their faces.
