Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez got a rude surprise from right wing haters the day before she was sworn into Congress. They released an excerpt from a college dance video in an attempt to smear her. But the effort fell flat. Instead, it’s endeared her to the country.

Ocasio-Cortez, the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, slapped back with a sassy dance video of her own posted on her Twitter account today.

It shows her outside her congressional office, doing a quick dance to the ’60s-era anti-Vietnam song, “War.” You know, “What Is it Good For?”

She danced, then pirouetted into her office with a wide smile.

“I hear the GOP thinks women dancing are scandalous. Wait till they find out Congresswomen dance too!” She captioned the brief video. “Have a great weekend, everyone.”

The dope who posted the video clip wrote thought he was humiliating her.

Ocasio-Cortez Smear Video Backfires

“Here is America’s favorite commie know-it-all acting like the clueless nitwit she is,” read the tweet from someone with the Twitter handle, AnonymousQ1776.

Although the video was thought to be from her high school days, it was actually filmed while she attended Boston University, according to CNN. The edited, 30-second clip was lifted from a 4-minute, 20-second video posted on YouTube eight years ago.

Ocasio-Cortez, who graduated in 2011 with a degree in economics and international relations, was one of a group of student dancers re-enacting scenes from 1980s teen coming-of-age movies.

“Using the European band Phoenix’s Lisztomania, the students created what they call the BU “Lisztomania” Brat Pack Mashup, a homage to the original, which first aired on YouTube last year,” the university said when the video was posted.

“The mashup, a remix of song and video clips, was an instant sensation and has been replicated worldwide,” it added.

Ocasio-Cortez Video Widely Viewed

The video has been viewed nearly 1.9 million times. It was inspired by the original Brat Pack movie mashup video posted in 2009 and and another video titled the brooklyn mashup.

In the BU mashup Ocasio-Cortez is joined by almost a dozen other students and the school’s mascot. Video of the school and surrounding Boston area is also featured.

Hardly anything to be ashamed about.

Twitter, of course, went ballistic at the transparent smear attempt.
