Donald Trump is at his best when he’s being worshiped by his sycophantic followers at a political rally. Just check out his latest venture to “Albacore,” New Mexico, on “Saturday Night Live’s” cold open.
Okay, that’s really Alec Baldwin preening in front of mock worshipers, but the self-adoration and xenophobia is totally Trump.
Trump’s well known habit of bumbling words and mangling the English language was on full display.
“So great to be here in the city of Albacore, tuna capital of the United States,” Trump goofed. Of course it’s really “Albuquerque” in Trump’s favorite Mexico… New Mexico.
“I came back for a surprise rally because I heard they’re building a wall on the border of Colorado to keep the Mexicans out,” he continued.
Hey, wait, the real Donald Trump actually said that!
At the Shale Insight Conference in Pittsburgh on Thursday (Oct. 24) he made the goof, saying the following:
“And we’re building a wall on the border of New Mexico and we’re building a wall in Colorado, we’re building a beautiful wall, a big one that really works that you can’t get over, you can’t get under and we’re building a wall in Texas. We’re not building a wall in Kansas but they get the benefit of the walls we just mentioned.”
That’s no joke.
Trump’s ongoing impeachment in Congress is also no joke. The Democrat-led House is being led by the president’s nemisis, Rep. Adam Schiff of California.
“These Democrats, led by Adam ‘Shifty Schiff is a real “Schiffhead,” Trump (aka Baldwin) said. “It’s a deep-state conspiracy, and tonight I’d like to bring up some of my loyal followers to explain what’s really happening in this country.”
Shades of blind loyalty!
Cecily Strong played a koolaid drinker who wore a T-shirt with a slogan lifted from a Trump tweet: “Keem Amarica Greab Agrain”
“I think you’ve got a couple of typos on that shirt,” Trump pointed out.
“No sir! This was taken verbatim from one of your tweets, therefore, it’s correct. The words needed changed, because you said so, sir!”
She put her finger right on Trump’s difficulties in Washington.
“This man is under attack. It’s deep state lizard conspiracy and everyone is in on it. The CIA, the FBI, the MIC, the KEY and the MOUSE!”
Aidy Bryant played a Trump evangelical zealot who hailed him as “the one true white lord.”
You get the picture.
Trump has been an running joke on “Saturday Nigh Live.” But so much of the fodder for the spoofs is provided by the real Donald Trump himself.
It wouldn’t be Saturday night without the comic relief of Trump cold opens.
