Halle Berry’s ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry, who is the father of two-year-old daughter, Nahla, is firing back at allegations that he has been an irresponsible father, with negligence charges of his own against Berry.
“While Gabriel is disappointed in Halle’s decision to falsely malign him publicly and for her own purposes, he refuses to be pulled into her dispute over a cancelled film production,” according to a statement released by his agency Wilhelmina Models.
“Gabriel also refuses to air their issues in the press as he believes this may ultimately harm their daughter. The fact is that Gabriel is a caring father who shares custody of Nahla,” it said.
Nonetheless, the model and restaurateur blasted Berry for disappearing for days at a time while he was on movie shoot with her and Nahla in London and South Africa.
Berry went public with her planned custody battle last week, and even dropped out of comedy movie “New Year’s Day” to press her case against Aubry in the courts.
She’s seeking sole custody of her daughter, but Gabriel asserted that a “balanced living situation and two loving parents are crucial for their child even if Ms. Berry feels otherwise.”
Berry said through a rep that she tried to resolve issues with Gabriel privately, but was forced to go to court because of his lack of cooperation.
“Halle has serious concerns for her daughter’s well-being while in the care of her father for any extended period of time and is prepared to take all necessary steps to protect her,” the rep said in a statement.
Berry’s court move may have been triggered by Gabriel, who in early December petitioned a Los Angeles court to formally recognize him as the Nahla’s father.
The couple dated for five years and their break-up went public last April, although the relationship had been on the rocks for weeks.
