David Letterman pestered Martha Stewart about her conviction for lying to investigators about a sketchy stock trade in 2004, and she slapped him in the face with a spatula full of whatever coronary inducing crap she was making. But it was all in good fun. Or was it?
Stewart appeared on the “Late Show with Letterman” last night (Feb. 4) to whip up some treats for the Super Bowl.
She was right in the middle of creating an artery blocking concoction of cream cheese, butter, lemon juice and Worcestershire sauce, when Dave suddenly popped the question.
“Ever hear from any of the cons?” he asked?
Dave was referring to Stewart’s conviction on all four counts of obstructing justice and lying to investigators about a well-timed stock sale, which landed her in jail. Obviously, the topic is a sore spot for the prissy home designer.
“That was a long time ago,” Stewart replied plaintively.
‘I know, I’m sorry,” Letterman bellowed.
“It was like eight years ago,” Stewart continued. (Actually, it was about six and a half years ago, but who’s counting?)
“I know you are a strong wonderful woman, and Im an asshole,” said Letterman.
“It’s odd that something like that defines a person,” Stewart said.
No it doesn’t,” Dave quickly shot back. “No, no, I am so sorry… I don’t know why I said that… a cheap laugh.”
Yes, it’s a cheap laugh,” said Stewart.
Dave dared her to pop him in the face with her goop and Stewart readily complied.
Dave and Martha are good friends and have made fun of each other over the years on her many appearances on the show.
Still, it was a hilarious moment; check it out on the video below.
