Max Page is the spunky Darth Vader in the now famous Volkswagen Super Bowl commercial, and he’s already on the road to celebrity at the tender age of 6, landing on the Today Show. Move over Justin Bieber.
The commercial was not only the most popular to air during the football contest, but it has also been viewed more than 16 million times on YouTube.
Page began his 15-minutes of fame with an appearance this morning (Feb. 7) on NBC’s Today Show with Meredith Viera and Matt Lauer.
Sitting beside his mother Jennifer Page, he explained how he came to audition for the ad on Dec. 29.
“It wasn’t until halfway through filming that we found out it was a Super Bowl commercial. We were just thrilled,” said his mom. “We just thought it was his first national commercial. I was like, ‘whoa, this is out of this world.”
Page, however, is an acting veteran. He has also appeared in ads for Walgreens and Clear Channel, and has also a couple episodes of the daytime soap “The Young and the Restless” under his belt.
But the commercial is by far his best known work. It was named most popular Super Bowl commercial on Hulu.com’s “Ad Zone” and earned the No. 1 spot from BrandBowl.com, Adbowl.com and Mashable.com, according to the car company.
Of course finding inspiration for the part of Darth Vader was a little difficult since he’s never seen any of the Star Wars movies. But he said he check out Darth on the Internet.
As if the story didn’t have enough human interest, Page revealed that he was born with a congenital heart defect and has been wearing a pacemaker ever since he was 3 years old.
