“Twilight’s” Robert Pattinson got very cozy with Thai the elephant while filming his new movie “Water for Elephants” with Reese Witherspoon. He told Jay Leno last night just how close in a remarkable story.
“The first time I met Thai the elephant, I just got in her mouth. It just seemed like a good place to be!’ the affable British actor told the late night host.
“She had these huge lips and her teeth were all the way at the back so she just carried me around!”
During filming with Reese, it was important for the actors to feel comfortable around the huge beasts. And, the best way to do that was to interact with them.
“Reese ended up under the elephant who then went back on it’s hind legs and let out the most incredible fart directly in Reese’s face for a good 45 seconds,” he said.
“But it shows Reese’s complete commitment to do the job because she just stood there and took it. And the elephant’s got a big a**e!” he laughed.
He said he was close to losing his nerve during the photo shoot.

A shoot like that takes about 30 seconds, that’s how long you’ve got when you’re holding a live alligator,” he explained.
Rob is making the rounds promoting Water for Elephants in between shooting “Breaking Dawn, Part 1 and Part 2,” the last of the “Twilight” films.
The movie will be released to theaters on April 22. Check out the clip below. Rob’s interview starts at about 18 minutes into the show.
