Lacey Schwimmer and Mike Catherwood pushed the envelope on dirty dancing, much to the horror of ABC executives, even if they finished last after Monday night’s “Dancing With the Stars” premiere.
And they only did the Fox Trot! If that was too hot for TV, what about the Tango, or Pasodoble?
“The network asked them to tone down the sexual undertones,” a network source told gossip site RadarOnline “They know there is a spark there — everyone is talking about their amazing chemistry.”
Schwimmer, 22, is a dancing veteran who actually grew up in the Mormon Church, and competed in the 1995 U.S. Open Swing Dance Championships at the age of seven.
Catherwood is known as “Psycho” on the show Loveline, which deals with sexual issues. Only makes sense that he would juice up his dancing with some sexual tension.
For all their effort, the pair only scored a 13 out of 40 for their opening dance of season 12. The judges obviously felt they were a little too over the top.
Oddly, The Washington Post said his performance with pro Schwimmer “had all the chemistry of cousins being forced to foxtrot together at a wedding.”
Catherwood has been a total jock about the dance, telling friends that “the best part about the routine was grabbing her butt,” according to the site.
Schwimmer kept the heat on by saying they “would make a great couple” and implied that she had seen “every part” of his body.”
According to the report, Schwimmer and Catherwood, who is allegedly on the outs with his current girlfriend, just laughed off ABC’s concern.
So watch out for the next show, which airs at 9 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays.
