Miley Cyrus has quietly crawled back to Twitter, after quitting the social media site in a huff last October, declaring that she wanted to keep her private life private. But out of sight means out of mind, and that’s not good for business.
Cyrus quietly returned to Twitter last month under the name Rock_Mafia. “This is my new way to connect,” she tweeted. “When I need to speak out I will tweet from @Rock_Mafia.”
But with a major tour in the works, she, or her handlers, decided she needed a higher profile. So, she opened her own account under the name “gypsyhearttour,” according to PopEater.
Cyrus, of course, laid off the move on Charlie Sheen, “Do not fear…the Sheenius is here!” I’m not gonna lie. I came back to twitter for 2 reasons. My fans and to follow @charliesheen #winning.”
Cyrus is also back to tweeting about her private life. “Yo guys! Its MC! Thank you so much for my KCA! PS I am taking over the Gypsy Heart twitter! Gotta keep ya posted on tour …”
The comments were a distinct contrast from a recent interview with Australia’s Sydney Telegraph.
“I do not social network, I try to stay out of it,” she said. “I complain enough about people knowing too much about my private life, so to go out there and exploit myself would be silly and hypocritical.”
In a YouTube video released last year, Cyrus explained and sang about her reasons for quitting. “Yeah, the rumors are true, I deleted my Twitter,” Cyrus raps in the backstage video – complete with choreography.
“I had to say goodbye,” she continues, “and this little rap is to tell my fans why.”
Oddly, some said Cyrus quit twitter because of her relationship with Aussie actor Liam Hemsworth, who doesn’t have a Twitter account and didn’t want her to have one.
But she denied the rumor, at the time, although the two have since broken up.
Say what you will about Twitter, but it is one of the best ways for a celebrity to stay in touch with their fans.
“Lets get me back to as many followers as before!!!!!! SO EXCITED FOR TOUR I CAN BARELY STAND IT,” she Tweeted about her upcoming tour, which kicks off in Ecuador.
These days, as Cyrus transitions to an adult career, she needs all the fans she can get.
