“Dancing With the Stars” pro Karina Smirnoff will cover the May issue of Playboy magazine and appear nude in a feature spread. Playboy founder Hugh Hefner announced the news himself.
Smirnoff’s decision to pose nude reportedly has caused an uproar at ABC, which bills Dancing With the Stars as family entertainment, although costumes are often racy.
“If Karina posed naked, she can kiss her dancing days goodbye,” a ‘DWTS’ insider told E! News’ Rob Shuter, after Hef made the announcement on Twitter. “I hope for Karina’s sake that this isn’t true.”
Karina is paired with ’80s “Karate Kid” star Ralph Macchio, who has been leading in points on the show.

The magazine will hit newsstands in May while the current season is still airing. The controversy is sure to detract from the show’s competition.
“ABC publicity department control the image of this show with an iron fist. It’s a cash cow and they are not going to allow its reputation to be soiled by a dancer who wants to do Playboy,” an ABC source told Shuter.
By posing, Karina may have violated the terms of her contract without first obtaining approval from the network.
Chris Jericho and Wendy Williams were the latest dancers eliminated from the show.
Kendra Wilkinson and Louis Van Amstel and Chris Jericho and Cheryl Burke were also on the bubble.
