Jennifer Lopez, who struggled to make a comeback at age 40 last year, is the belle of the celebrity ball after People magazine named her 2011’s Most Beautiful Person. Thanks “American Idol.”
Since she joined the hit Fox television show this season, Lopez has been able to showcase her personality and her glamorous looks.
She’s injected some humanity into the contest, which pits aspiring singers against each other for the right to be crowned “American Idol,” and a chance at a music career.
It’s a far cry from last New Year’s Eve, when she launched her comeback with a Times Square performance wearing an ill-fitting gold bodysuit that drew howls from critics. Many labeled her a “has been.”
Before that, she took a tumble onstage at the American Music Awards while singing her song “Louboutins” about, of all things, shoes.
Lopez heads a list of luminaries that include Mila Kunis, Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Hudson, Reese Witherspoon, Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Lawrence, and Mindy Kaling and Ellie Kemper from “The Office.”
The People awards, this year, appear to have tried to identify inner, as well as outer, beauty.
Lopez says she diets and exercises regularly to keep in shape, and still would rather be known as Jenny from the Block rather than as a diva.
“The thing is, it’s part of my job,” she tells People. “I don’t want anybody thinking it’s easy.”
Lopez took time off from her career to give birth to twins, Emme and Max. In the meantime, a crop of new younger singers burst on the scene, from Lady Gaga, to Rihanna, Ke$ha and Nicki Minage.
Never known for having a strong voice, Lopez struggled to regain her footing in the music industry, although she is involved in cosmetics and fashion.
