Twilight sensation Taylor Lautner shows off his fighting skills and acting range as Nathan Price, a teen who sets out to uncover the truth about his life after discovering his baby photo on a missing persons Web site.
A new trailer released today (Apr. 14) for “Abduction” sets up the action thriller.
The picture will be the first big test to see if Lautner can carry his own film outside of the “Twilight” series, where he stars as Jacob Black alongside Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
Taylor trained for the role by taking boxing, swimming, taking fight-training and motorcycle lessons. Matt Damon, who played Jason Bourne, boxed, took fight-training and strength-trained for the role.
Lautner, a former junior world karate champ, says fictional superspy Bourne would likely beat his character in a fight.
“I think Nathan would need a little more training [to fight Jason Bourne],” Lautner told MTV. “Give him a couple years, and we’ll get there.”
Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs and Maria Bello co-star in the John Singleton film.
In the trailer, Taylor takes on some bad guys, shows off his action chops and has a makeout scene with co-star Lily Collins, daughter of music legend Phil Collins.
Taylor, who has made no secret of his ambition to be an action star — earned praise from his Abduction co-star (and rumored girlfriend).
“[Nathan is] very Jason Bourne-esque, of course, with his own twist on it,” said Collins, 22.
“It’s a complete departure from Jacob [Black in Twilight]. I think [Taylor] brings an aspect people haven’t seen yet and [it’s] very, very exciting.”
Similarly, Abduction co-star Isaacs gushed over Lautner’s incredible athletic skills.
“He’s a martial arts prodigy,” said Isaacs. “Even at 11 he looked like Bruce Lee. He’s a phenomenon; he’s like a gold-medal gymnast.”
Abduction comes out in September 2011. Check out the trailer below; Click to go.
