Charlie Sheen got more than star treatment when he arrived in Washington, D.C. He was treated like the president by D.C. Police, which gave him high-speed escort, lights flashing and sirens wailing. Is it any wonder he suffers from an overbearing sense of entitlement?
Sheen’s motorcade hit speeds of 80 miles an hour led and trailed by police cars with their emergency lights flashing. The treatment is reserved for head’s of state, and violates D.C. police policy to provide similar service to civilians.
But Sheen, himself, provided the proof when he Twitter a photograph from inside his speeding SUV, showing the speedometer and, through the windshield the police car in front of him.
“[In] car with Police escort in front and rear! [D]riving like someone’s about to deliver a baby! Cop car lights #Spinning!” Sheen tweeted.
An embarrassed police department said today (Apr. 21) that they are investigating the incident.
“This escort was handled as a reimbursable detail. This means that the government was reimbursed for the services provided. This entire matter is under investigation,” said spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump.
The two SUVs carrying Sheen and his entourage arrived at the the DAR Constitution Hall nearly an hour late for the show.
When Sheen arrived a bevy of media reporters witnessed the scene.
”I just landed. We had a police escort and we ran more red lights than Brooke Mueller heading to a pawn shop,” she reportedly shouted to reporters.
The reference was to his estranged wife, who recently entered rehab for a drug addiction and has been fighting — and winning — a custody battle with Charlie over their twin sons.
For what it was worth, Sheen’s performance drew heckles and a number of audience members walked out.
Sheen next takes his “Violent Torpedo of Truth” tour to Atlanta’s Fox Theatre tonight (Apr. 21).
