UK actress Emma Watson is not just taking a leave of absence from Brown University; she’s dumping the Ivy League college all together. The latest revelation comes as rumors continue to swirl that she was bullied and taunted at the school.
Vanessa Davies, a rep for the 21-year-old actress, who should be graduating by now, said Watson is leaving Brown for good and will transfer to another university this fall.
The statement was a sharp departure from an earlier announcement that Watson was only taking a leave of absence from the school because of work commitments, largely involving the last of the Harry Potter films.
Watson has said that her introduction to campus life at Brown was “awful,” and a fake topless photo of the star made its way around the campus email system last fall. But Davies said the decision was driven by her desire to pursue another course of study “not offered” at Brown.
To the contrary, Watson praised the school during an interview, saying Brown students were “very protective” of her.
Watson reportedly was subject of jokes when she answered questions in lectures, according to the New York Daily News.
“They would respond with a quote from Harry Potter. The most popular choice was, “Three points for Gryffindor!”’ a source told the newspaper.
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” the final movie in the series, will be released in July.
