Rihanna, the victim in 2009 of a savage beating by then-boyfriend Chris Brown, can’t seem to get violence out of her life or her music. He latest video for new single “Man Down” is all about revenge killing for a rape.
In the video, Rihanna is abused by a man, and guns him down. Whether it’s related to her beatdown at the hands of Brown on the eve of The Grammy Awards is unknown.
But it seems in her movie at least, she can’t get over an obsession with violence, whether it’s sado-masochistic sex play or outright physical violence.
Oddly, she seems to have patched things up with Brown in real life. She agreed to lift an injunction requiring the rap singer to keep a safe distance from her. And she is even following him on Twitter.
Here’s what she had this to say about the new song and video.
“Young girls/women all over the world…we are a lot of things!” Rihanna tweeted.
We’re strong innocent fun flirtatious vulnerable, and sometimes our innocence can cause us to be naïve! We always think it could NEVER be us, but in reality, it can happen to ANY of us!
“So ladies be careful and #listentoyomama! I love you and I care!”
