David Fincher’s Girl With The Dragon Tattoo looks like a dark, dark thrill ride judging from a new trailer and poster that features Rooney Mara topless in the arms of Daniel Craig.
When Fincher reportedly agreed to direct a remake of the Swedish film series, “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” he already had a vision for what he wanted.
It’s supposedly illustrated by the film’s first poster, for which he expected major push-back from the studio. But Fincher’s fears appear to have been unfounded.
All of which means that he may have been given free rein to finally do justice to the late Stieg Larsson’s international best-selling crime series “Millennium Trilogy.”

Mara plays the nihilistic, goth, avenging angel, Lisbeth Slander. Daniel Craig as investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist, who teams up with her to crack the criminal underworld of Henrik Vanger, played by Christopher Plummer.
Among Larsson’s dark themes, his books explore sexual violence, corporate corruption and latent Nazism in Swedish society.
The poster features Craig standing behind a topless Rooney, his arm artfully and some will place lettering protecting her from full exposure.
Mara starred in last year’s “A Nightmare On Elm Street” and appeared in Fincher’s Oscar winning “The Social Network.”
Swedish actress Noomi Rapace defined the role in three Swedish-made films, which have become cult classics.
But Fincher is out to elevate his version of the film and seems intent from the trailer on capturing the full-on nihilistic depravity that Larsson sought to portray.
Check out the trailer below. The film debuts Dec. 21.
