Polanski, 77, was snared by Swiss authorities on a U.S. warrant for his arrest for fleeing the United States to avoid sentencing in a 1977 case involving the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl.

Although he spent some time under house arrest at his posh home in the Swiss resort town of Gstaad, Swiss authorities ultimately refused to extradite him to the U.S. and freed him.

“Carnage,” is noted for its all-star cast–John C. Reilly, Christoph Waltz, Jodie Foster and Kate Winslet–as well as the fact that it is Polanski’s first film since he was sidelined by the scandal.

The movie is an adaptation of the critically acclaimed play God Of Carnage, about two couples who meet to discuss an altercation between their children at a park.

The play, adapted for the screen by playwright Yasmina Reza and Polanski, won rave reviews on Broadway in 2009.

The picture will zero in on the couples as their meeting turns into a nasty confrontation, They delve into homophobia, racial prejudice, misogyny and, ultimately, the weaknesses in their own marriages.

The film is expected to be released in November, and is expected to be screened at the Cannes, Toronto and Venice Film festivals, where it’s eagerly anticipated.
