Jay-Z, Kayne West Video Blings Otis Redding Classic (watch) 1Jay-Z and Kanye West pay tribute to soul icon Otis Redding, and the mash up is featured in a new Spike Jonze video. Otis is probably spinning in his grave.

The song laces Redding’s classic “Try a Little Tenderness,” with bling braggadocio as Kanye raps and sings and Jay-Z fires off his machine gun rhymes.

Redding’s 1966 recording features a slow soulful opening that eventually builds into a powerful crescendo. He was backed by Booker T. & the MG’s, and Isaac Hayes worked on the arrangement.

The video showcases Jonze’s minimalist approach for the resulting, “Otis,” from the newly released album Watch the Throne.

Of course, Jay-Z and Kayne are all about the bling and the video looks more like a tribute to product endorsements.

The clip opens with a team of workers in white overalls, going to town on a $300,000 Mercedes Maybach.

They cut and slice the car with torches and powersaw, but destruction isn’t their aim.

The produce a super customized version of the car and the rap duo jumps in and drives off.

From there, it’s all about Rolexes, Ho’s and Benz’s — make that multiple Benz’s, Kayne crows.

Jay-Z goes on about smoking Cubanos with Castro, but the Cuban dictator would probably be appalled by the rappers crass Yankee materialism.

Oddly, the song is played out in what looks like and abandoned factory.

Comedian Aziz Ansari makes a cameo appearance and the video ends by cutting to black.

Text appears announcing that the chopped Maybach will be auctioned and the proceeds will be donated to East African drought disaster.

So something redeeming comes out of this after all.

Jay-Z and West’s Watch the Throne was released on iTunes on Aug. 8, and will hit Best Buy shelves today Aug. 12.
