Emma Watson: A Year After Her Shocking New Haircut (27 photos) 1Emma Watson is one of the most photographed young stars in Hollywood. Fashion magazines can’t get enough of her and her photos epitomize her belief that fashion is art. A lot has changed in a year. Here’s what started it all.

It seems not that long ago that Watson was best known as the feisty, tomboyish young girl in the “Harry Potter” series. The movie defined her bookish image for almost a decade. But then Emma did something remarkable.

She chopped off the tousled, shoulder-length curls that were Hermione Granger’s — and her –trademark.

The British actress revealed a closely cropped haircut  on her Facebook page a year ago this month, looking like iconic 1960s UK fashion model “Twiggy,” or a young Mia Farrow.

The dramatic new look raised eyebrows and shocked fans, but it had it’s intended effect. It marked a clean break from her Harry Potter character.

She also revealed a growing, maturity, sophistication and sexuality that was masked by her close identification with Harry Potter.

Since then, fashion stylists can’t seem to get enough of her. She’s covered magazines around the world, showcasing a wide range of looks.

Watson confirmed that she is still trying to emerge from a shell, emotionally.

“My acting tutor said the hardest thing for me was to get angry. I almost broke down in tears when they tried to get me to be angry. I said, ‘I can’t do it, I just can’t do it.’

‘I keep all of that really bottled up somewhere and I feel unleashing it would be the scariest thing – and to let myself be powerful, sexy, all those things, it’s scary for me,” she told the magazine.

Her stunning photo shoot in Unversitymagazine put her in the ranks of classic film stars like Audrey Hepburn.

“With short hair you’ve got to be a bit bolder, there’s nothing to hide behind. So it’s made me be bolder in my fashion choices,” she says.

“It’s actually made me more confident as a person I think. I’m not sure why that is. But it has.”

Watson was signed by Burberry as the face of their new campaign and also launch her Lancôme Trésor Midnight Rose perfume.

The Trésor scent reflects her character, she says. It has hints of Turkish rose and fruity-florals and is light and easy to wear. The understated scent is much like her own fashion style.

“I think less is more — less makeup, less accessories is better,” she told WWD magazine.

I try to dress age-appropriately, which isn’t actually that easy when obviously high-end clothing is designed for women who are older than I am.

“It’s a fine line to tread between looking smart and looking ready to go on a red carpet but also looking like I’m 21. It’s quite difficult.”

Watson has the ability to portray so many different looks, from a fresh-faced and perky, to dark, sultry and sexy.

In her first post-Harry Potter film, Watson has been cast in the upcoming “My Week with Marilyn” and stars in the film adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower.”
