Mel Gibson’s career was shattered by ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, but his bank account appears to survive relatively unscathed, according to a ruling by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Peter Lichtman. So what was the point?
Oksana, 41, only gets $750,000 from Mel, who is worth an estimated $50 million. He once reportedly offered to pay the mother of one of his eight children $15 million to settle out of court.
There is more to the ruling than meets the eye, however, and one-year-old daughter Lucia appears to be the big winner.
Oksana will maintain principal custody of Lucia, but Mel will be able to visit any time he likes as long as he has a mutually-agreed-upon person with him.
She’ll also continue living in his multi-million dollar mansion, while little Lucia will reap the proceeds when she turns 18 and the house is sold.
Lucia will also get the same level of financial support as Gibson’s seven other children.
The judge also imposed a gag order on both parties, so neither can make derogatory statements about the other.
That’s a day late, however.
During the bitter split, Oksana released a series of tape recordings of Mel engaged in vile, racist and misogynistic rants against her.
“Oksana settled because it was in the best interest of Lucia,” said her lawyer Daniel Horowitz.
“She is going to concentrate on raising her daughter herself without nannies,” he added.
Gibson continues to remain out of favor in Hollywood.
He’s last movie, “The Beaver,” bombed at the box office in a limited release, although it was generally well received by critics.
