Jada Pinkett Smith may or may not be out of a marriage, but she is out of a job. And so is her rumored lover Marc Anthony. Smith confirmed today that TNT has cancelled her show “Hawthorne.”
It’s unlikely one–rumors of marital infidelity–had anything to do with the show’s cancellation, but the series was embroiled in the tabloid scandal nontheless.
Jada starred in the medical drama and was executive producer as well. Marc started out as a guest star on the show, playing a detective.
But Pinkett soon elevated him to a series regular and he played her love interest on the program. She also named created an executive job for him as music producer.
The show ran for three seasons, and in its most recent, Pinkett Smith’s character Christina Hawthorne shared steamy love scenes with Anthony’s character, Detective Nick Renata.
There were reports that their on-screen chemistry spilled over off set.
When Anthony split with his wife of seven years, Jennifer Lopez, the rumor mill went into overdrive.
InTouch Weekly, in six pages of text and photos, detailed an alleged affair between Jada and Anthony, the wedge that reportedly drove apart one of Hollywood’s most enduring marriages.
Will, 42, even allegedly caught Jada and Anthony together in one of their homes in Los Angeles, the magazine asserts.
But the Smiths insisted their marriage was “still intact,” and both Jada and Marc strenuously denied an affair.
Other reports said the marriage was definitely troubled, but stopped short of declaring that the couple had split.
Now in the latest blow, Jada’s show is over.
“Hey everyone…if you don’t know Hawthorne will not be returning for another season,” she wrote on Twitter.
“I want to say thank you to all the fans for being Hawthorne soldiers. All our facebook fans…twitter soldiers and viewers…you held us down. Of course you know there is more to come…believe it!” she added.
