Rachel Uchitel is the Rodney Dangerfield of Tiger Woods’ alleged mistresses. She can’t get no respect. She’s furious at The New York Post for allegedly taking comments about her Sept. 11 tragedy out of context.
Uchitel’s first taste of notoriety came following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, when her fiancé Andy O’Grady was killed in the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings.
She was famously photographed holding a flyer, sobbing in a desperate search for him. Publications around the globe ran the picture as a symbol of the grief of 9/11 survivors.
The event certainly marked a turning point in her life.
Instead of marital bliss, she became a New York party girl and club hostess, eventually landing in Woods’ bed.
She was one of more than a dozen cocktail waitresses, party girls, club hosts, prostitutes and porn stars who claimed affairs with the golfer.
Needless to say, respectability has been a sore point ever since her married-celebrity hunting behavior surfaced.
But now Uchitel, 36, says The Post has stepped over the line.
She told the New York Post’s Page Six magazine that dying on 9/11 was part of O’Grady’s destiny, and that she would be a “fat housewife” living on Long Island with “three kids” had things been different.
“I believe Andy was meant to die because he was too good. I’m almost happy it ended the way it did because I’ve learned so many lessons from him,” she said. “It would have been tragic if we got into fights and then divorced.”
“I would be a fat housewife with three kids in Sands Point, [Long Island]” had he survived, she said.
Now, Uchitel claims on Twitter that the remarks were taken out of context. She accused the newspaper of “molding words and shaping how readers perceive people,” she wrote. “This should be stopped”
“I would have loved nothing more than to be Andy’s housewife,” she told gossip site TMZ.
Uchitel has been nothing if not peripatetic since the Woods scandal, living variously in New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and now San Francisco.
She’s the only mistress trying to cling to her 15 minutes of fame.
Last year, she did a stint on the VH-1 reality show “Celebrity Rehab” that included a trip to the World Trade Center site.
She’s currently dating a 26-year-old insurance salesman.
