New York Fashion Week Debuts Spring 2012 Lines (Live Stream!) 1Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is in full swing in New York, drawing the rich, beautiful and famous, not to mention hordes of fashionistas and fashion wannabes, eager to make the scene at one of the industry’s signature events.

The tents, once again, have gone up at Lincoln Center in Midtown Manhattan, which debuted as Fashion Week’s nexus last year. The shows used to be held in Bryant Park.

The first shows for Spring 2011 features loose and flowing fashions, breezy dresses, sheer layers and fluttering gowns.

Maybe it’s because of the weak economy, but the classical look is back.

Bright colors, draped shoulders and lots of layers marked the opening shows.

At BCBG Max Azria, tight and tiny was out, light and airy is in, according to the NY Daily News.

Luminescent primary colors were also widely evident, greens, yellows, electric orange and bright whites.

Richard Chai’s pink and purple floral prints wrapped like sarongs, and his tropical ease extended to orange and turquoise jackets worn with sleeves scrunched up above the elbow, according to the News.

The BCBG Max Azria show was the first to draw celebrities, even though it started at 10 in the morning.

Jessica White and Elisha Cuthbert were spotted in the front row.

Plus-size model Coco Rocha, who last year made the tabloids after a designer called her too large (she’s a size 4) was spotted at the Supima show. She wore red leopard-print leggings.

Also spotted were Heidi Klum, Vanessa Hudgens, Sarah Jessica Parker and Glee’s Lea Michele.

Victoria Beckham will be one of the stars on Sunday, when she debuts her new line.

Beckham appears to have regained her size zero pre-pregnancy physique less than 8 weeks after giving birth to her fourth child in early July.

Victoria, 37, was photographed wearing skintight black leather pants in five-inch heels walking behind husband David Beckham in Los Angeles Sept. 2.

The shows are perennially protested by animal rights group PETA, which released its latest campaign poster featuring George Clooney ex-Elisabetta Canalis to coincide with the show.

The group opposes the use of fur, which it claims is inhumanely harvested from animals.

Gulnara Karimova, the daughter of the Uzbekistan dictator Islam Karimov, is also expected to draw protests for human rights violations when she presents her Guli line on Sept. 15.

Most shows will be streamed live online this year. Click here to watch live online.
