Brad Pitt is learning the hard way what happens when you speak ill of the nation’s sweetheart, even if he was married to Jennifer Aniston for five years.
Pitt appeared to be trying to express his satisfaction with his partner Angelina Jolie, but by way of complementing her, he gave a back handed slap to Jen in Parade magazine.
Ever since, Pitt has been desperately attempting to put the blow up behind him, over his comments about his marriage to Jen, a period, he said, when he “wasn’t living an interesting life.”
He added that he spent five years married to Aniston “trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn’t.”
He was forced to continue with damage control on “The Today Show” this morning (Sept. 23)
“She’s good people. She, you know, there, there should be a statute of limitations on this,” he told Matt Lauer.
Lauer tried to read the offending passage from the magazine interview, but Pitt cut him off.
“No, I, you know, please don’t read it … ” he pleaded.
“I don’t want to be encumbered by any of that,” he said. “I know my intentions, and I know what I believe, and I know things get misconstrued. I live outside of, of that, and it’s much healthier.”
In the end, he blamed himself for speaking a little too loosely.
“I don’t wanna live on guard and I should be more on guard, I guess,” he said.
“It’s always been a part of the territory. I’ve got a knack for stepping into sh*t. And it’s OK. It’s alright.”
Aniston, 42, reportedly was “annoyed” by the comment, a source told UsWeekly. “She thought it was rude and inappropriate.”
Jen is currently dating actor Justin Theroux.
Her agent and publicists also “went ballistic,” a Pitt insider reveals, and angrily reached out to Pitt’s people.
Pitt is currently making the rounds promoting his new movie, “Moneyball.” Check out his interview below.
