“Twilight” star Taylor Lautner has supposedly dumped his “Abduction” co-star Lily Collins. Only question is were they ever an item to begin with?
Lautner, who stars in “Abduction,” his first feature film as leading man, reportedly broke it off with Lily, the daughter of UK music icon Phil Collins, following the end of filming.
If they were dating, it apparently was nothing more than a Hollywood “locationship,” while they were both on set making the movie.
But there was never any solid evidence the relationship went further than a good friendship.
“It was a clean break that Taylor initiated,” a source tells UsWeekly, a not-always-reliable barometer of celebrity gossip.
The break up cam before the action film’s red carpet premiere and after party in L.A. Sept. 15, the source said.
“At the Abduction party, it was awkward,” the source admits. “They barely said a word to one another.”
The only solid evidence that something was up between them was an interview Lautner gave to Seventeen magazine.
“You can feel some sort of chemistry or a connection when you are reading a script with someone for the first time,” Lautner said. “And that was totally the case with Lily.”
Taylor, 19, went through the same cycle with country music princess Taylor Swift, 21, while they were filming 2009’s “Valentine’s Day” together.
Swift reportedly ended that relationship, after concluding they didn’t have much in common and were torn apart by their schedules.
Collins was effusive about Lautner’s acting, amid rumors that they are very close off-screen.
“People know Lautner from ‘Twilight’ and see him as Jacob, but Jacob is not in this movie. I’ve heard him be compared to Tom Cruise – which is cool,” Collins, 22, said.
Indeed, Lautner, 19, has a lot riding on Collins and his new movie. It’s his first major role outside of the “Twilight” franchise.
Among other things, it will measure whether he is capable of carrying a major feature film as leading man.
And, it will also influence whether he becomes an action/adventure star like Cruise, Matt Damon and other A-List Hollywood actors.
As for their budding relationship, Lily visited Taylor on the set of “Breaking Dawn,” while he was filming in British Columbia.
They were also spotted at a Pittsburgh Steelers football game while filming “Abduction” together there, and have caught flights and shared a number of meals together.
But Taylor was coy when he was asked to compare Collins and “Twilight” co-star Kristen Stewart.
Collins will play Snow White in Relativity’s “Brothers Grimm: Snow White” alongside Julia Roberts who plays the Evil Queen.
Stewart, 21, will star in Universal’s “Snow White and the Huntsman” opposite Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth.
“It’s tough. I mean, my excuse is they’re so different. I can root for them both,” he said at the MTV Movie Awards.
“Kristen’s going to be cool and edgy and dark. It’s gonna be something new for her, and I think that’s really exciting.
“Lily’s gonna be great too. And a completely different feel.”
It’s just that he apparently is no longer feeling it.
