Scarlett Johansson, one of several actresses whose private nude photos ended up on the Internet, may finally get to confront the person who stole them. A Florida man has been arrested in the case.
The Florida man was arrested today (Oct. 12) on federal charges that he hacked into emails of celebrities including Johansson, according to the AP, which cited a person familiar with the investigation.
Los Angeles FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller confirmed the arrest but declined to provide additional information.
The arrest is part of Operation Hackerazzi, a year-long FBI investigation of computer hacking that targeted Hollywood celebrities, Eimiller also confirmed.
Johansson was just the latest celebrity to see private nude photos of herself pop up on the Internet and go viral.
The actress admitted taking the photos, and said she did not give anyone permission to publish them. She claimed they had been stolen from her cell phone.
Earlier this year, a group of hackers claimed to have cracked the email accounts of up to 50 celebrities and discovered numerous nude photos, almost all self-taken.
Since then, photos of Vanessa Hudgens and Blake Lively have turned up online. Reps for Blake denied the photos were her, but the denial was pretty thin.
Nude photos of Twilight actress Ashley Greene also hit the web along with photos of Paramore’s Hayley Williams, Christina Aguilera and numerous photos of Rihanna.
Also add to the list Jessica Alba.
In fact, so many private nude photos have been leaked it almost seems like a publicity stunt. It’s unknown how many of the nude photo leaks are related to the hacking ring or came from other sources, including ex-boyfriends.
