LaBeouf and his ungainly adversary were both reportedly drunk and had been ejected from the bar. Once outside the fight began, according to video obtained by gossip site TMZ.
The unidentified man was videoed standing over LeBeouf, punching him in the face. The fight was quickly broken up by friends of the actor, or onlookers.
LeBeouf, 25, who plays a rough and ready action hero in the “Transformers” films, has a reputation for hot-headedness and has been involved in a number of barroom altercations.
In this case, the assailant saw Shia hailing a taxi outside the bar, approached him and they began arguing, according to eyewitnesses.
The man tore off his shirt and started punching Shia in the face, according to TMZ.
“He got into a confrontation with a couple of people,” onlookers said. “He took a few punches to the face. He was obviously pretty intoxicated.”
LaBeouf has been a regular at the bar, Cinema Public House, while in Vancouver filming “The Company You Keep” with Stanley Tucci and Anna Kendrick.
Shia got up immediately after the man was pulled off him, and appeared to be ready to go at it again, before some friends pulled him away and held him back.
“You gotta lay low right now!” one of the men can be heard saying on the video.
LaBeouf’s string of drunken episodes includes an outing with his girlfriend Karolyn Pho and Marilyn Manson and a fight inside the Mad Bull’s Tavern in suburban the Los Angeles.
He was charged with DUI in 2007 and misdemeanor criminal trespassing after being openly intoxicated in a store in Chicago in 2008.
