Jennifer Lopez lost it during a performance at Mohegan Sun Arena’s 15th anniversary celebration while she sang a heart-wrenching song about love gained and lost, with look-a-likes of former lovers whirling in the background.
The 42-year-old singer, who has done much to repair her career, if not her love life, was singing her 1999 song “If You Had My Love,” written at a time when she was dating Sean Combs.
That relationship ended badly after Combs got involved in a shooting. She married dancer Chris Judd, but that ended in divorce.
She rebounded into a torrid relationship with actor Ben Afflack.
They were one of Hollywood’s storybook romances until unrelenting tabloid coverage drove Afflack to call off marriage at the last minute.
The “American Idol” judge thought she found true love with singer Marc Anthony. The two wed and she gave birth to twins.
But the couple’s seven-year marriage crumbled in a cheating scandal and clash of egos over careers.
Lopez started sobbing and had to leave the stage after performing the song. She said it was the first song she wrote about love.
“What is love?” she asked the audience.
“At the end of the song she started sobbing and had to take a few moments to keep it together,” an onlooker told RadarOnline.
“She held it together for one song but then ran offstage crying. She only sang a few more songs and she was obviously out of it. Everyone was so sad for her. It was really dramatic.”
Most recently Lopez has been spotted with Bradley Cooper, fueling rumors the two are an item.
“As a mom, and having children, right now they’re my first priority,” she said recently. “And because of them, I wouldn’t ever comment on anything until I’m in a serious relationship again.”
