Dark Girl With Dragon Tattoo Extended Trailer Debuts (watch!) 2Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig are cast into a gray and ambiguous world that mirrors the cold Swedish winter in the latest extended trailer for “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.”

Mara plays nihilist anti-hero Lisbeth Salander and Craig plays crusading journalist Mikael Blomkvist in the David Fincher film based on the late Stieg Larsson’s international best-selling crime series “Millennium Trilogy.”

Three Swedish films based on the series, starring Noomi Rapace, have become cult classics, so Fincher has a high hurdle to clear among aficionados.

The new eight-minute trailer gives the biggest glimpse yet of the upcoming movie and from the looks of it, Fincher has left no stone unturned to the full force as well as the moral ambiguity of Larsson’s works.

Salander, is a nihilistic, goth avenging angel on a mission to uncover a dark world of sexual violence, corporate corruption and latent Nazism in Swedish society, a world that she is oddly part of.

The film may especially resonate with audiences because of its themes of corporate greed and corruption, not unlike that found on Wall Street that triggered the financial crisis of 2008.

The video opens panning a cold and gray panorama across a lake, the obvious holiday redoubt of a wealthy elite.

From there it cuts to a hushed and somewhat cryptic telephone conversation. Then Lisbeth is seen riding up to an office building like a black knight.

The teaser also provides some insight into Henrik Vanger, the Swedish industrialist, played by Christopher Plummer ,

Vanger sets things in motion by asking Blomkvist to investigate a 40-year-old murder that eventually leads to underworld corruption.

Salander has her own past to deal with. She’s been institutionalized, her background is mysterious, but she has a large trust fund controlled by an evil guardian.

All of this loops back eventually to Vanger.

The film hits theaters on December 21st. Check out the trailer below:
