Ridley Scott's Prometheus Trailer Dark, Foreboding (watch!) 2Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Idris Elba are running, getting sucked into space and generally freaking out on a desolate and barren world in the much anticipated trailer for Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus.”

The film, which also features Guy Pearce and Patrick Wilson, marks Scott’s return to the sci-fi genre since his last film, 1979’s “Alien” and its sequels.

Set in the late-21st century, “Prometheus” will explore an advanced extraterrestrial civilization responsible for the origins of modern humans on Earth.

The film will also shed some light on the origin of the Alien creature from the 1979 film, although it won’t be a prequel.

Judging from the brief, minute-and ten-second clip, the film has the same look and texture as “Alien.” It portrays space as a dark, foreboding environment.

Astronauts are protected by a thin veneer of technology as the plunge into a world they know little about and discover things they may wish they never knew.

The trailer doesn’t reveal too much in the way of plot. But it showcases the film’s stunning visuals, through lots of quick cuts against a backdrop of spooky music and throaty moans and screams.

Scott has been lauded for his sci-fi films, including the classic “Blade Runner,” but in recent years he’s veered off in other directions with solid hits like 1991’s “Thelma & Louise,” 2001’s “Black Hawk Down,” and 2000’s “Gladiator,” with Russell Crowe.

The film is set to open in June 2012. Check out the trailer below:
