Demi Lovato, who’s done a world of good as an advocate for healthy eating, has suddenly pulled the plug on her 5.6 million Twitter followers. The self-professed bi-polar singer could be on a downswing again.
Lovato didn’t really provide much of a reason for her decision, but the change unfolded Saturday (Jan. 21) when she Tweeted: “Can’t please everyone.”
She followed up with: @ddlovato Twitter break. It’s for the best actually. Who allows me to have this thing anyways?!!! I just get myself in trouble! Haha. Anyway… BYE! And with that she was gone from the social networking site.

Twitter has been immensely popular with celebrities because it gives them a direct way to communicate with fans. But it also generates a lot of snark and hate comments. Lovato was recently on the receiving end of the latter over her weight.
Since her breakdown and trip to rehab at the end of 2010, Lovato has gained about 30 pounds and become outspoken about body image and healthy eating. She’s decried the pressure in Hollywood for stars to be thin.
She scolded her former employer Disney over jokes about eating disorders in two shows, “Shake It Up” and “So Random.” Disney responded by pulling the episodes.
Stars have also gotten into trouble by Tweeting things they didn’t mean or misstated.
Lovato may have wanted to avoid any backlash from rumored breakup with boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama. She hinted at the breakup with a series of tweets earlier this month. “Loyalty is EVERYTHING.. I’m thankful for my friends who stand by my side,” she wrote.
She also quoted ’50s sex siren Marilyn Monroe in another Tweet: “A wise girl kisses but doesn’t love, listens but doesn’t believe, and leaves before she is left.” The smartest thing a woman can ever learn, is to never need a man,” she added.
Lovato, who also suffers from anger management issues, may have been speaking out of turn. She and Valderrama were spotted together Jan. 18, at LA club, Beacher’s Madhouse. The couple “couldn’t keep their hands off each other,” a source told Life&Style magazine.
