Kim Kardashian fell hard after she ended her 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries, but it was just the right seasoning of scandal to make her perfect for a part on Lifetime’s “Drop Dead Diva.”
The Lifetime Network, which is known for soapy made-for-television movies, often featuring infidelity and spousal murder, apparently is trying to spice up its offerings by signing tabloid princesses, according to deadline.
The cable network recently said it is hoping to land Lindsay Lohan to portray Elizabeth Taylor in a biopic movie. That’s providing, of course, the hot mess actress completes her probation and community service sentence for drunk driving and misdemeanor theft.
Kardashian, who has no real acting experience outside her reality shows, which may be all acting these days, will play Nikki. She’s slated for a mult-episode arc in the upcoming fourth season.
The character be the new love interest of Fred (Ben Feldman) who partners with his ex Stacy (April Bowlby) in a new business venture.
“I’m ecstatic to welcome Kim to the Diva family,” said Diva creator-executive producer Josh Berman in a statement. “I’m blown away by her smarts, sense of humor and passion. This series is all about reinvention, and I’m so excited to see Kim ‘reinvented’ in the world of Drop Dead Diva.”
The show is about a shallow, aspiring model who dies suddenly. Her soul lands in the body of a brilliant, thoughtful, but plus-size attorney, played by Brooke Elliott. In a sense, Kardashian will be playing to character.
She considers herself an entrepreneur and has far-flung business interests. Her sidelines include hawking diet pills, clothing and jewelry lines–and critics claim, staging fake weddings. And, well, she’s got the shallow part down.
But she’s so hot right now, and by that we mean radioactive, Lifetime may have bitten off more than it can chew. Tyler Perry was widely criticized for hiring Kim for his movie “The Marriage Counselor” last year.
A recent story in the New York Post reported that Kardashian was so toxic her career as a shill and reality star was all but over. But Hollywood loves a comeback story, and Kim may be getting the bounce she’s been looking for.
