Jane Carrey, the daughter of actor Jim Carrey, found out that celebrity only gets you so far in a talent competition. She was unceremoniously cut from “American Idol” in Hollywood, after singing off-key.
Carrey, 24, who works as a waitress, was the highest profile contestant in the show’s history. She got through her initial audition and received a call from dad on camera. Some wondered whether the fix was in.
She sang “Looking Out My Backdoor” by ’60s-era band Creedence Clearwater Revival.
“I’m really disappointed in myself. I know I can do way better than that,” she said with tears in her eyes.
“I talked to my dad and he was kind of comforting. He said, ‘I’ve been said no to a bunch of times’ and it worked out for him well, so hopefully I have a shot,” she added.
She sounded nervous when it was her turn to sing and seemed tentative and unprepared. Her voice cracked and she sang without much feeling. The judges dismissed her and three other singers, without comment.
Carrey, however, shouldn’t be too disappointed. In fact, she’s likely to get a record deal out of this yet. Her voice isn’t that bad, she’s attractive, and well, she has a famous Hollywood dad. Talk about connections.
