Singer Gladys Knight and Disney Channel actor Roshon Fegan represent the extremes of age among the new Dancing with the Stars cast. She’s 67 and he’s 20. Everyone else falls in between, and for once the contestants look like a tight group with lots of potential.
The 14th season won’t be burdened by obvious clods like Kate Gosselin or Bristol Palin. Both had little talent and big fan bases that kept them on the show way past their time.
Instead, there’s a great mix of has-beens, celebrity wannabes, pro sports figures and a couple of real contenders. So let’s check out the list.
Maria Menounos, 33: She’s a television presenter who thinks she’s a celebrity. Boring! But she’s matched well with Derek Hough. and probably really, really wants to win. Odds of Winning: 6-5

Melissa Gilbert, 47: From big star on Little House on the Prairie, she’s been out of the limelight for some time. Will this restart her career. Partner Maks Chmerkovskiy is back. A potential clunker. Odds: 20-1
Katherine Jenkins, 31: She’s an opera singer who sang on Season 12. Who? She’s paired with Mark Ballas. She’s earnest, but DWTS is also a popularity contest. She’ll be hurt by small fan base. Odds: 20-1
Gladys Knight, 67: Popular, but does she have the horsepower to pull it off? Oldsters usually struggle on this show. She’s paired with Tristan MacManus. Odds: 50-1
William Levy, 31: Isn’t this guy a professional dancer? If so what’s the point of having him on? His claim to fame is his appearance in Jennifer Lopez’s “I’m into You” video. The potential ringer is paired with Cheryl Burke. Odds: 5-1
Martina Navratilova, 55: Athletic skills and championship attitude may give her an edge. But how bad does she want it? She’s paired with Tony Dovolani. Odds: 9-1
Sherri Shepherd, 44: The View co-host is as close to a clunker as anyone in the cast. Hopefully she won’t overstay her welcome. Her partner is Val Chmerkovskiy. Odds: 100-1
Jack Wagner, 52: Who? He’s a soap opera star who could be a darkhorse because of a loyal fanbase. Plus he was once married to Heather Locklear! His partner, Anna Trebunskaya. Odds: 25-1.
