The interview set to air Thursday was kind of a confessional for the hot mess actress, who is trying to get the message across that she is serious about cleaning up her act.

She acknowledged she was in “denial” and needed a “wakeup call” to finally get her act together. For the five years, Lohan has been better known for partying an wild drug and alcohol behavior that finally caught up to her in 2007.

She was arrested for drunk driving and went through a series of legal mis-steps that exacerbated her legal problems, which culminated in an arrest for felony theft last year. More recently, she’s won praise for the way she’s handled her probation and community service.

Now, she’s said she’s done with heavy partying. “That’s not my thing anymore,” she told Lauer. “I went out, actually, a few months ago with a friend. And I was so uncomfortable. Not because I felt tempted, just because it was just the same thing that it always was before.

“And it just wasn’t fun for me,” she said. “I’ve become more of a homebody. And I like that.”

Lohan said she wants her career back and her goal is to regain Hollywood’s trust. The road begins with her gig hosting this week’s “Saturday Night Live” and her starring role in a Lifetime movie about Elizabeth Taylor.

Lohan also posed nude in Playboy magazine in a homage to Marilyn Monroe.

“I could see where it could be scary for people to invest in me. And I don’t want people to have that reason to be scared anymore,” she said.

“Being able to have this opportunity with ‘SNL’ and the film, I’m gonna do what I’m supposed to do, and enjoy doing it, and do it as best as I can.”

Lohan, of course, has been down this road before. Two years ago, she told Vanity Fair in an interview that she had learned her lesson. At the time, she was slated to appear in a biopic about porn star Linda Lovelace. But she lost the role because of her continuing legal problems.

“I think that that’s gonna take — I think that takes time,” Lohan acknowledged. “And I think that it’s actions. Because people can say things all they want, but I think I still need to go through the process of proving myself.”

NBC released excerpts of the interview yesterday (Feb. 28)
