The picture pulled in an astonishing $214 million worldwide over the weekend, according to studio Lionsgate. In the United States and Canada the film earned $155 million, topping Robert Pattinson’s and Kristen Stewart’s “Twilight” franchise.
The film, which also stars Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks and Willow Shields pulled down a couple of box office records.
It ranks third as the all-time biggest opening three-day weekend, behind 2008′s “The Dark Knight” which grossed $158.4 million. But it is the highest non-sequel opening weekend ever and the highest March opening ever, according to deadline.com.
The highest grossing Twilight picture, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” grossed $142.8 million domestically over its opening weekend in Nov. 2009, and “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1” pulled in $138 million last November. The final movie in the series, “Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2, will hit theaters this November.
In Germany, the film pulled in $3.9 million. Lawrence has been on the road promoting the film, including a wacky interview with David Letterman. She urged fans not to see the movie, because she thought she was awful in it.
She’s gotten a few bad reviews, but otherwise, the critics and viewers alike seemed to like her performance.
She told Interview her favorite pop culture characters are Bridget Jones and Hulk Hogan. When she gets her first real check she says she wants to “bathe in a pool full of pasta.”
And she confides, she’s afraid of ghosts: “Just yesterday when I moved into a new room at the hotel, I was deeply convinced, that I shouldn’t wash my face, because if I would look into the mirror, I would actually see a ghost.”
Jennifer looks beyond sexy on the April cover of Interview Germany. She wears a Dolce & Gabbana one piece from the label’s spring 2012 collection.
