Anne Hathaway cuts up with Jason Sudeikis in a hilarious new promo for her upcoming gig on Saturday Night Live. A lot has happened in her life since her last appearance. She’ll be making her third turn on the show.
She’s gone from racy indie films like “Love and Other Drugs” to blockbusters like the “Dark Knight Rises,” and now she’s working on one of her most ambitious roles yet.
She’s playing Fantine in the Tom Hooper-Directed film adaptation of “Les Misérables.” The role is demanding because Hathaway must sing her part and the film based on the classic Victor Hugo tale of love and redemption set against a fevered rebellion in early 19th century France.
Expectations are high for the all-star cast, which also includes Amanda Seyfried as Cosette, Samantha Barks as Éponine, Sacha Baron Cohen as Thénardier, Eddie Redmayne as Marius and Helena Bonham Carter as Madame Thénardier.
Unlike other musicals, the cast is singing the movie live. Usually a film is shot with the actors lip-syncing lyrics and the music is added in post production.
Among other things, Hathaway shaved her head for her part, and her hair is still short, although it’s grown back a bit. It’s likely going to be part of the show, judging from a preview.
