Channing Tatum scored a rare double in this year’s beefcake sweepstakes. He’s People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” and was named “Movie Star of the Year” by men’s magazine GQ. Was it that stripper movie? Did that do it?
Tatum, 32, showed plenty of skin in this year’s, “Magic Mike,” about a group of guys who strip off for the ladies at a Florida club.
Tatum worked out insanely to get in shape for the picture. It’s based on his own experience as a stripper in Florida. He’s currently training to play an Olympic wrestler in next year’s “Foxcatcher.” Now that’s dedication.

He joins and elite People mag club that includes Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Johnny Depp, Hugh Jackman and last year’s pick Bradley Cooper. He said he found the honor a little hard to believe, at first.
“My first thought was, ‘Y’all are messing with me,” he said. Tatum has been married to actress and dancer Jenna Dewan since 2009.
Tatum is featured in GQ wearing finely tailored suits, which along with his rugged good looks, immediately suggests he could be in line to play James Bond one day, when Daniel Craig hangs up his spy gear.
He actually began his career as a dancer and male model. In 2000, he danced in Ricky Martin’s “She Bangs” music video, and modeled for Armani and Abercrombie & Fitch before moving into television commercials and then acting.
Tatum told GQ he followed the advice of “very successful, smart actors.”
“They were like: ‘Grind it. If you love it, grind it.’ I did. And a lot of people who didn’t grind it, it’s not that they’re not in a good place, but I’m in a better place,” he said.
“People know him to be fun and sexy, but they don’t know how emotionally deep and spiritually open he is,” says Jenna. “He is such an open-hearted person; what you see is what you get.”
