Kevin Clash Learns Downside of Paying Off Teen Lovers

Kevin Clash Learns Downside of Paying Off Teen Lovers 1Kevin Clash should have known if he paid off one teen lover, others would come out of the woodwork. After being sued by a second man who claims he had underage sex with him, Clash suddenly quit his job as the voice of Elmo on Sesame Street.

The latest case involves Cecil Singleton, a 24-year-old man who claims he met Clash in in a gay phone chat room in 2003. He was 15 at the time and Clash would have been 32.

The claims are similar to those by Sheldon Stephens, who agreed to accept a $125,000 settlement in exchange for recanting claims that he also had underage gay sex with Clash. He has since recanted his original recant in apparent violation of a settlement agreement.

Clash quit his “Sesame Street” job today as soon as the new lawsuit went public, according to TMZ.

Sesame Street Workshop, which produces the show released the following statement. “Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding Kevin’s personal life has become a distraction that none of us want, and he has concluded that he can no longer be effective in his job and has resigned from Sesame Street. This is a sad day for Sesame Street.”

Clash, who is 52, claimed that the relationship with Stephens was consensual and that he was of legal age at the time. In New York State the age of consent for sex with an adult is 17-years-old.

“Elmo is bigger than any one person and will continue to be an integral part of Sesame Street to engage, educate and inspire children around the world,” the workshop said in a statement.
