Jamie Foxx Calls Obama Almighty; Right Rains Hell Fire, Brimstone

Jamie Foxx Calls Obama Almighty; Right Rains Hell Fire, Brimstone 1Jamie Foxx may have been preaching to the choir when he declared President Obama “our Lord and Savior,” during the BET Soul Train Awards Sunday night, but he’s bringing down hell fire and brimstone from right-wing evangelicals who prefer to see Obama in, shall we say, a different light. Foxx may have been fighting fire-with-fire by bestowing on Obama a title normally reserved for, you know, God. After all, ardent religious opponents called Obama the Anti-Christ during the election campaign.

Rev. Robert Jeffress, the senior pastor of the First Baptist Church in Dallas, stopped short of that. But he warned his congregation on the Sunday before the Nov. 6 election that an Obama victory would lead to the reign of the Anti-Christ, according to The Christian Post.

“President Obama is not the Anti-Christ. But what I am saying is this: the course he is choosing to lead our nation is paving the way for the future reign of the Antichrist,” he claimed.

Shockingly, 24 percent of Republicans surveyed before the election in an online Harris Poll involving 2,320 adults believed that Obama might be the Anti-Christ, compared with a mere 16 percent of Democrats.

Can you fault Foxx for wanting a little psychic payback? “It’s like church over here. It’s like church in here. First of all, give an honor to God and our Lord and Savior Barack Obama,” he told the mostly African-American audience. The program was filmed a week after the election, according to E! News, so Foxx was understandably pumped.

But religious groups are fuming, sort of. Bill Donahue, President of the Catholic League, issued what appeared to be a tongue-in-cheek response.

“Foxx’s epiphany is startling. It just goes to show that even though Obama did not succeed in stopping the oceans from rising (as he promised to do in 2008), he did succeed in convincing Jamie Foxx, and no doubt legions of others, that God exists,” Donahue said.
