Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper are winning accolades for their quirky comedy “Silver Linings Playbook.” A new featurette released today shows the intensity Cooper brings to the movie that Director David O. Russell calls an unusual romance.
Cooper plays a bi-polar man who suffers from delusions and Lawrence is a young widow. They fall in love over the course of the movie which has tragic elements that also evoke humor, according to Russell.
Cooper and Lawrence were nominated today (Nov. 28) for Spirit Awards for their lead roles along with John Hawkes and Helen Hunt. They play a disabled man and his sex surrogate in “The Sessions.”
“Silver Linings Playbook and “Moonrise Kingdom” led with five 2013 Spirit Award nominations each. Also nominated were “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” “Keep the Lights On,” and “Middle of Nowhere” with four nominations each. The awards, sponsored by Film Independent, recognize excellence in independent films.
“Silver Linings Playbook,” is already being mention as an Oscar contender as well. The Spirit Awards show will be held Feby 23, one day ahead of the Academy Awards ceremony.
