Game of Thrones Season 3: Kill Off a Few Characters, Already (watch)

Game of Thrones Season 3: Kill Off a Few Characters, Already (watch) 1Peter Dinklage and Emilia Clark coyly discuss the upcoming Season 3 of “Game of Thrones” in a new preview. Hopefully the show pulls together plot lines that have made following events in the seven kingdoms as difficult as a 3D chess game.

Creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are telling anyone who will listen that they finally get things right, in the series, which returns March 31.

Although that remains to be seen, the new clip reveals even more characters to follow in a show already filled with so many plot lines and personalities it’s uncomfortable to watch. So, what do Benioff and Weiss do? Pile on more characters.

Get ready for the Queen of Thorns Olenna Tyrell, played by veteran English actress Diana Rigg.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster also joins the show as Jojen Reed, the younger brother of Meera Reed and eldest son and heir of Lord Howland Reed of Greywater Watch. Sister Meera will be played by Ellie Kendirck.

Rapper Ed Skrein and actor Jacob Anderson have been cast as Daario Naharis and Grey Worm, according to HBO. And, Ciarán Hinds, who starred so ably in the hit HBO series “Rome” will play “King-Beyond-the-Wall” pretender Mance Rayder.

“The game’s been upped. There’s so much more danger. There’s so much risk,” says Clark, who plays Daenerys Targaryen. She’s got that right.

The show’s one failing is its daunting complexity. It spends so much time jumping from one plot line to another, it advances the story at a snail’s pace. Viewers no sooner get into one character, and it flips to another. It would be great in Season 3, if the show killed off just a few… if only for the sake of simplicity.

After all, life in medieval times was cruel, brutish and short. But in “Game of Thrones” it drags on forever.
