The group is an off-shoot of the American Family Association, a conservative religious group based in Mississippi that believes in a literal interpretation of the Bible.
“God has communicated absolute truth to mankind, and that all people are subject to the authority of God’s Word at all times,” according to the AFA’s website.
That doesn’t leave a lot of room for homosexuals, whom the group believes are an abomination. So much for religious tolerance.
The group’s top priorities are to “restrain evil by exposing the works of darkness” and “promote virtue by upholding in culture that which is right, true and good according to Scripture,” a statement on its website says.
Apparently Ellen hawking dry goods for a retail chain qualifies as a “work of darkness.” The group demanded Ellen’s head (not really, it prefers burning at the stake) simply because she is gay (and lovable). The retail outlet politely refused, but it did quietly stop running the ads.
But now, Ellen is back on the air for Christmas and cavorting with elves (the devil’s children in case you didn’t know).
“Since April, JC Penney’s has not aired Ellen DeGeneres in one of their commercials until now,” the group said in a statement. “A new JCP ad features Ellen and three elves. JCP has made their choice to offend a huge majority of their customers again.”
“Christians must now vote with their wallets,” continued the statement.
