Taylor Swift surprised her fans today (Dec. 18) by releasing a near 16-minute video online featuring three songs recorded live from her YouTube webcast. The songs, plus commentary, are off her new album Red.
Many of songs off the album are based on her personal relationships. She’s kept fans busy guessing about who inspired what among former beaus John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal, Taylor Lautner and Nick Jonas.
In fact, Taylor has dated 13 guys in the last two years. She’s most recently been linked with UK boy band One Direction’s Harry Styles after breaking off a summer fling with Conor Kennedy, the son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Before singing one of her funniest and most determined songs, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” she explained how it came about.
“I wrote it with Max Martin and Johann Shellback, who are two of my songwriting heroes. They’re amazing,” she explained.
And, we we’re in the studio, and we were writing a different song, and this guy walks in who was a friend of someone I had previously dated. And he comes in and he’s like, Oh… I hear you and uhuh are getting back together. That was like his opening line. And we weren’t.”
So when he left I turned to Max and said we are never getting back together. What? That’s ridiculous.
“I told them the whole situation, as I do, because I tend to share, as you know. And, he turned to me and said ‘I know the song you are writing today.’ And it just happened,” she said.
Swift recorded the webcast in front of fans. It was the first time she played her new songs before an audience. She sings acoustic and plays a mean guitar.
