Kanye West’s bombshell announcement that girlfriend Kim Kardashian is his baby mama received widespread play across the news media. But one question remains: Does this raise or lower her skank quotient?
Kardashian has been a polarizing celebrity ever since her dramatic divorce announcement in October a year ago.
She had been married to Brooklyn Nets basketball player Kris Humphries for all of 72 days and they are involved in a bitter divorce court battle that looks like it’s heading for trial early in 2013. That means she is still technically married.
Kim took great joy in making the announcement on her blog today (Dec. 31).
“It’s true!! Kanye and I are expecting a baby. We feel so blessed and lucky and wish that in addition to both of our families, his mom and my dad could be here to celebrate this special time with us.
“Looking forward to great new beginnings in 2013 and to starting a family. Happy New Year!!! Xo”
Kim’s biological clock was definitely ticking. At 32, the odds of her getting pregnant were slowly stacking against her. If she waited even another year, it might have been that much more difficult. This is also Kanye’s first child.
While baby news is usually warmly received, in Kim’s case, she has conceived out of wedlock and is just another unwed mother. Although she’s more than capable of providing for her spawn, as a role model, what kind of signal does that send to her millions of fans?
Earlier this year, Dr Helen Wright, the headmistress of St Mary’s School, an exclusive girls’ boarding school in England, branded Kim the “worst role model in the world.”
Her first husband, Damon Thomas, who was married to Kim for three years after eloping to Las Vegas, calls her “a lying, cheating, plastic-surgery-loving fame-whore.”
With a marriage that lasted 72 days, a TV career built on a sex tape and host of sketchy product endorsements, Kim will have a lot to explain to her new child.
