Katy Perry’s stunning Alexander McQueen mermaid-style halter gown with jeweled neck strap is under fire for allegedly failing to meet CBS’s strict new dress code for the Grammy Awards. But the reports are pure hype.

Artists have worn some daring designs at previous Grammy Shows that include plunging necklines, revealing skirts and open tops. But, hey, it’s show business right?

For this year’s show, however, CBS inexplicably circulated a memo warning stars to avoid revealing clothes. The network will televise the show tomorrow (Feb. 10). The missive went viral on the Internet raising hoots of derision.

It also raised a question whether stars would attempt to purposely violate the dress code. Hey, it’s rock ‘n roll, right?

Here’s What CBS Had to Say: “Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered. Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic. Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could possibly expose female breast nipples. Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible ‘puffy’ bare skin exposure.”

Needless to say, celebrities were closely watched at last night’s pre-Grammy event, the annual MusicCares gala to see how they dressed. For some reason, Perry’s orange gown was singled out. One of the sketchier gossip sites, HollywoodLife, claimed it showed too much “sideboob” to be acceptable.

But nothing could be further from the truth. It barely even reveals her armpit let alone any part of her breast.

Even from a profile perspective, the dress reveals virtually nothing. But that didn’t stop the site from proclaiming “Katy is certainly not adhering to CBS’ wardrobe advisory for the Grammy Awards.”

Going even further, it claimed she was “putting her sideboob on full display!” The site also claims the Rihanna will wear something that tests CBS’s standard, but offers no evidence to back that up.
