The fantasy fairy-tale movie is a Sam Raimi-directed re-imagining of L. Frank Baum’s classic book “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.”
The movie focuses on the “wizard,” played by Franco who is actually a Oscar Diggs, a small-time circus magician and flim-flammer who is swept over the rainbow to Oz in a balloon. He’s received as a wizard and given the task of ridding the land of its evil witch.
Oscar can only think of looking the riches of the Emerald City until he has a change of heart, most under the guideance of Glinda, the good witch of the west, played by Williams.
The minute-long clip shows Glinda leading the way, popping through the clouds into bright sunlight followed by the wizard, who has his troubles flying by bubble.
But the real star of the trailer is Disney’s fantastic computer generated imagery, which creates a fantastical world of Oz, complete with huge emerald crystals, soaring mountains and valleys and lush landscapes.
Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz play the witches Theodora and Evanora. Oscar must determine which witches are good and which are bad.
Along the way, of course, Oscar learns what it’s like to become a better man.
“Oz The Great and Powerful” opens in U.S. theaters, Mar. 8, and is one of Disney’s big bets for a blockbuster year. Check out the clip below and be sure to follow TheImproper on Twitter for the latest film updates.
