Harry Styles can’t get any respect from Taylor Swift and now his boy band One Direction is getting dissed as well. The UK music magazine NME dishonored the boys with its Worst Band Award for the second year in a row. What about The Wanted?
Both boy bands burst onto the scene last year and have become tabloid staples. But more so One Direction, thanks to Harry’s dating habits.
First, he has an affair with a married woman almost twice his age; then he started dating the fickle country star. After their infamous breakup on vacation in the Caribbean, she’s made a laughing stock out of him with her clever, stinging disses at high-profile events.
Suddenly, the Simon-Cowell creation is becoming the band everyone loves to hate. Cowell put the band together out of rejects from his UK show X-Factor. He revived the boy band concept after they went out of fashion in the 1990s.
The humiliation continued on Tuesday, when Styles was nailed in the groin by a shoe thrown from the audience at a concert. To top things off, NME named Styles “Villain of the Year,” an honor that went to Justin Bieber last year.
It wasn’t all insult at the awards show. Indie rockers Florence + the Machine won Best Solo Artist and Best Dance floor Anthem, for “Sweet Nothing,” featuring Calvin Harris.
Las Vegas band The Killers was named Best International Band, while the ageless Rolling Stones won for Best Live Band and Best Music Film.
Somewhere, Bieber is probably cackling. He was genuinely worried last year that the boy bands would steal his young teen steam. But Harry has single-handedly seen to it that Justin has no worries.
