Whether she ever gets her Oprah moment and a shot at redemption remains to be seen. So far, no one will touch her.
The 26-year-old’s life has been a living hell ever since her toddler daughter Caylee disappeared in 2008. She was later found dead not far from her home six months after her grandmother reported her missing.
Casey was tried for murder an acquitted in 2011, even though she had lied to police throughout their investigation, even claiming, at one point, that a nanny kidnapped the baby. Anthony never told anyone the two-year-old was missing, until her mother questioned her.
The trial, during which she exhibited bizarre behavior, left her $792,000 in debt, with only $1,000 to her name, according to court papers. She’s been living in hiding ever since the trial, has no income and no job to speak of.
“I don’t pay rent. I don’t pay utilities. I guess you could say I’m living free off the kindness of others,” she said according to The Associated Press.
Anthony has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, through which she could erase most of her debts. She is also facing several civil suits including one from a woman who has the same name as the fictional nanny she claimed kidnapped the baby.
The bankruptcy hearing in Tampa, Fla., is the first time she’s been seen in public. She was dressed entirely in black with a large hat and sunglasses to conceal her face. She was well dressed, with her hair styled and her nails manicured, according to press reports.
Her attorney Cheney Mason did his best to shield her from reporters and photographers who pursued her up to the courthouse steps. The meeting is her first with creditors to hopefully hammer out a bankruptcy plan.
Following her acquittal, Anthony was expected to hit the celebrity circuit and make millions of dollars selling her story. But the crime was heinous and the acquittal did little to remove doubt that Anthony killed the little girl. She was convicted of four counts of lying to police.
No media outlets have been known to make her an offer. In her only interview with Piers Morgan on CNN last June, she denied killing Caylee again.
