Lady Gaga, Rihanna Slammed by PETA; Singers Called Freaks

Rihanna’s snakeskin boots sparked PETA criticism.

Lady Gaga and Rihanna have joined Kim Kardashian on the public enemies list for animal rights group PETA. The two pop singers were branded “freaks” because they regularly wear clothing and accessories made from animal hides.

The organization, known formally as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has also criticized such celebrities as Jessica Simpson and Reese Witherspoon.

It slammed Rihanna because she was spotted in London wearing thigh-high snakeskin boots similar to boots Kardashian wore earlier this summer.

“Rihanna may not have a clue that snakes killed for boots are often nailed to a tree and skinned alive. Of course, they can’t go on Oprah to cry about it,” said a PETA rep. The reference was to the singer’s recent interview on Oprah Winfrey’s show.

“Wearing reptile skin is creepy and callous, and it makes her look even more out of touch. She and Lady Gaga seem so desperate to be freaks instead of recognized for their talents that you have to wonder if they realize that they are being laughed at,” the rep added.

Kim’s sister Chloe Kardashian supported the animal rights group and was photographed nude for one of its anti-fur campaigns. But she renounced the organization after one of is members threw a bag a baking flour on Kim at a red carpet event to launch Kim’s new fragrance.

Likewise, Gaga has previously supported the group. But the “Born This Way” singer recently blasted PETA for its heavy-handed tactics. She also praised Kardashian. “You see a carcass, I see a museum pièce de résistance,” she told the group.
